Sarawak Energy commissioned Malaysia’s first utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System in 2024, with a capacity of 60 MW / 82 MWh. The system enhances grid stability and resilience by providing frequency regulation and reserve capacity, while enabling greater integration of renewable energy and reducing dependence on carbon-intensive peaking power generation.

Trained 120 employees in Hydropower Sustainability Standard (HSS) competencies to address gaps and embed responsible practices across projects, positioning them as internal champions for sustainable hydropower management.​​

The North Star ESG Target Setting

Certified the Bakun Hydroelectric Plant under the Hydropower Sustainability Standard (HSS), earning the Blue Planet Prize 2025 and Silver Certification — the first and largest hydropower facility in Southeast Asia to achieve this standard.​

Developed the Batang Ai Floating Solar Farm — Malaysia’s first hybrid hydro-solar generation facility and the nation’s largest floating solar farm, estimated to offset 52 kilotonnes of emissions annually and advance Sarawak’s power-system decarbonisation.

Sarawak Energy Berhad strengthened regional decarbonisation through cross-border collaboration to export renewable electricity to Sabah, enabled by East Malaysia’s first inter-state grid interconnection. Commencing in December 2025, the initiative supports regional energy security, reduces reliance on fossil fuels, and advances clean energy integration under the broader Borneo and ASEAN power connectivity agenda.
