About the event

The Experiential Learning Day is a half-day event and an opportunity for participants to gain practical experience, a deeper understanding and an increased retention of topics discussed in The Summit by taking part in voluntary activity sessions. 

Available activities are as follows:

1. Clean City, Clear Conscience: Upcycling the City (Hosted by: Upcycled by Fuze Ecoteer)

Time: 8:00am - 12:00pm (4 hours)

Location: Lembah Subang PPR

Fee: Complimentary

About the session

The 'Upcycling the City' programme by Upcycled by FE highlights the boundless potential and environmental advantages of community-driven cleanups and the art of upcycling.

The Cleanup:

Participants dive into the nitty-gritty of cleanups, learning about the various waste issues in Malaysia, the environmental impact of cleanups and long term solutions. Participants will also complete the crucial waste audit, supporting participants in learning the composition and volume of waste generated in a specific location or community.

Precious Plastic Workshop:

Participants are introduced to the precious plastics workshop, an extraordinary opportunity to learn the craft of transforming discarded plastic waste into exquisite, one-of-a-kind upcycled products. With hands-on guidance by the team at Upcycled by FE, the workshop not only encourages innovation but also contributes to the urgent need for sustainable solutions.

Fee inclusive of:

  • Trained facilitators that are first-aid certified
  • Equipment: Gloves, pickup sticks, bags, weighing scales, nets
  • Management of waste collected 

Requirements for participants: 

  • Wear appropriate clothing to protect yourself from the weather, sun, bugs, scratches from thorny unfriendly plants and vegetation, and injuries from sharp items (broken glass etc). We suggest long pants and sleeves. Do not wear shorts or sleeveless shirts. 
  • Wear closed toe footwear. Do not wear sandals, slippers or go barefoot. 
  • Wear insect repellent that works for mosquitoes.
  • Wear sunblock to protect yourself from the sun.
  • Bring a water bottle and remember to always stay hydrated.

2. Sharing Abundance: Cultivating Sustainability Through Food Surplus (Hosted by: The Lost Food Project)

Time: 9:00am - 11:00am (2 hours)

Location: TLFP HQ @ Chan Sow Lin

Fee: Complimentary

About the session

In this session participants will delve into the world of TLFP, gaining valuable insights into the organisation's mission and innovative approaches to addressing food waste. Participants will have the opportunity to embark on a fascinating tour of TLFP's facility, witnessing firsthand the impactful work being done to rescue and redistribute surplus food. This workshop goes beyond theory and observation – it encourages active involvement. Participants will engage in a hands-on bread surplus activity, where they’ll be assigned the meaningful task of collecting excess baked goods and delivering them to shelters, old-folk’s homes, and orphanages. This immersive experience will allow participants to witness the positive impact of their efforts and contribute directly to the well-being of underserved communities.

Requirements for participants: 

  • Attire: Please wear comfortable clothes and pants. Shorts and open-toed shoes are not permitted.
  • Kindly bring your own tumbler. We provide a water dispenser at the warehouse for your convenience.
  • Bread Surplus Collection and Delivery: Each participant or pair should have access to one (1) car for the collection and delivery of surplus bread. (Tip: have your friend register too!) 

3. Merdekarpenter Open Day: Embracing Sustainable Wood Manufacturing & Resource Maximisation (Hosted by: The Green Factory)

Time: 11:00am - 1:00pm (2 hours)

Location: Lot P.T 12725, Jalan 16, Kampung Baru Ampang, Ampang, 68000 Selangor, Malaysia

About the session

The Green Factory's Merdekapenter Open Day offers a unique and immersive experience that celebrates local industry building and talent, in conjunction with Malaysia's Independence Day. This session will allow participants to deepen their understanding of sustainable wood manufacturing, interact with the passionate team behind its cause, and witness the circular development of sustainable products firsthand. Visitors will have the opportunity to witness various green processes adopted in the factory, including material sorting, material salvaging, waste management, and energy conservation. 

This session is complimentary; however, participants have the option to take part in the side activities, such as dismantling pallets, wood sanding and finishing, and wood painting, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Kindly note that the side activities are chargeable and can be paid on-site.

4. [Registration Full] Sustainability 101: Mastering the Fundamentals of Corporate Sustainability (Hosted by: UN Global Compact Network Malaysia and Brunei)

Time: 9:30am - 12:00pm (2.5 hours)

Location: UNGCMYB HQ @ Petaling Jaya

With a focus on actionable steps, participants will gain valuable insights and knowledge that they can immediately apply in their respective roles to drive positive change.

For all payable workshops: Please ensure payment is made within three (3) days from the registration date to secure your reservation. Failure to submit payment within this timeframe will result in the cancellation of your RSVP, and the seat will be made available to the next participant. 

Refund Policy: Refund requests can only be considered in the event of oversubscription from our end, where the workshop is unable to accommodate all registered attendees. While we cannot process refund requests under other circumstances, we understand that unexpected circumstances may arise. In such cases, we encourage you to consider sending a replacement attendee in your place. Should you wish to send a replacement, kindly notify us in advance to facilitate a smooth registration process for the substitute participant.
